Welcome

Welcome to Bleeding Blue and Orange, a new blog from two die hard Islanders fans, which will give you all a view into our thoughts of the NHL's New York Islanders and the rest of the hockey world.
This is a brand new blog for other Isles fanatics like ourselves. We encourage all readers to actively participate in our discussion boards. We have unique points of views and can get deep into the minds of the Isles upper management. We have been following the Islanders since we were babies and we hope to spread the Blue and Orange by this blog. From both of us here at Bleeding Blue and Orange, welcome to Islanders Country!

I, the Candyman, would personally like to welcome all that have found their way over from Newsday's trash talk extravaganza. If you want to know what's up with the Isles, then you have come to the right place. We have high connections to the right people in the Isles organization. You can count on us to break stories, probably before Logan finishes sipping his ice tea. Welcome Isles fans around the world!

Ah, a welcomed site/sight...from true Islander fans like myself. I look forward to discussing the team instead of defending it from Ranger fans on Newsdays post. After all why should we pad Newsdays site with hits to their site when in reality they barely cover(ed) the team.

good luck with your new blog. I'm sure it will have a better year than the Islanders

Hey "25yearsoffailure" are you referring to your career with that tag name?

well, that didn't take long

Sometimes individuals pick strange names, but all that matters is that he believes his name of choice best represents his inner self. On that note, thanks for the good wishes on the new blog. 2 candy canes for you.

Anyone think Franz Nielson will get another look this year? He seemed to play well in limited time with Tambellini. Also, think Nolan is going to ride DP as much this year or do you think that with all of the back to back games Dubi will get some legitimate playing time to keep fresh so we don't have another disaster like we had when we called on Dunham after warming the pine for 3 months straight?

Coral,

Good points and some better questions. I like what I saw from Nielson. He's a smart player who proved that he could score. (although maybe not with his 1 career NHL goal). He did have a huge deciding shootout goal for us this year. We all expect big things from Franz, and I would rather see him on the 4th line than someone like Hilbert. I'm not sure why he was asked to return.

Re Dubie, I think he should get around 10 games. 72 for DP and 10 for Dub and I'll be pretty happy. He could get his fair share of the back to back type games, although if it's a back to back against the Rangers for example, I count on DP being in there for both of those.

The problem with Dunham last season was that after he demonstrated against Ottawa that he simply could not play at this level, Nolan gave him another start against Florida. Both games were given away at a time when the Isles were desperate for points. I don't plan on that becomming an issue this year, as Dubie is less likely to break down as the season progresses.

Wait........ you mean we can actually talk Islander nation in here? Hell, Ill give it a try....

I would like to see Dubie play 12-15 games to give DP some rest - just look what happened to Brodeur in the playoffs. I hope Bate's groin has FINALLY healed this time. Seems his groin problems are yearly.

DP is much younger than Brodeur and should be able to handle the increased playing time...Yeah that's the problem with Bates...every year it seems like he is going to be off to a great season and his groin acts up again...I'm not sure if it's just bad luck or Bates' conditioning program...but either way he cannot be counted on to produce all season long...it's been quite some time since he last played a full season...

I appreciate the insight into Dubie. Interesting point about Bates, if healthy he has the speed and skills to contibute "some". But at the very least he has the ability to kill penalties. I always here so much talk amongst fans/GM's that they want to add to their powerplay, but very little focus seems to be put on penalty killing forwards. You need guys like Bates, Hilbert, Richard Park if your going to be killing 5-7 power plays/game. If you score 2 or 3 on the power play but in turn give up the same on the kill you'll never be ahead. The role as a PK guy does not show up in the stats, but when you are in the lower half of the league on the PK your probably at best a middle tier team in the standings.

By the way Justin; in reference to the game in Florida where Dunham got another start: I was at that game in FL and the offense really stepped it up as the game progressed to come back in that game but everytime they got close Dunham would let up a soft goal and the team would get dejected. Being at the game very close to the ice; I could remember the dejected looks on the players faces after the goals kept going in. That just goes to show you how valuable DP is; all year he came up with saves that kept the momentum in our favor, while bailing out the defense on breakdowns in their own end. DP - MVP for me.

Right, how unbelievable was that game. The Isles kept battling back and Dunham couldn't handle a wrap-around. Those were not the kind of soft flukey goals that show a goalie just messed up. They were the type of goals that showed that Dunham was obviously not in game shape and that he should have been at least removed from that game. I was astonished when Dunham was given the next game as well. What in the world was Nolan watching?
