That's a Top Line
If last night is an sign of the year to come then I think we will all be happy where this team finishes at the end of the year. While there was clearly alot of rust on the ice last night, when your new top line puts up 10 points (3 Gs, 7As) how could we complain. For the last 5 or 6 years we have been complaining about the same topics, and it seems that we finally have a top line that will not only lead the team in points but in the locker room as well.
Game Notes:
If Comrie plays like this for the first 10 games, I say sign him to an extension as soon as possible. Rick let in a few weak ones but made for it big time with some jaw dropping saves and he will probably outscore Hilbert this year. Lets start the Tambellini watch.

According to Eklund, Meyer was put on waivers today.
What I like best about this team so far is that lines 1-4 work hard EVERY shift. Last season, the only line that seemed to do that was Sillinger's. I also like that Hunter is taking a lot of shots.
Tambellini was named Assistant Captain in B-port. It seems odd, but maybe I'm reading to much into it.
According to Logan's blog, Meyer will clear waivers on Monday at 12PM. The Islanders can't sign Berard until he either clears waivers or is claimed by another team. Looks like Berard will be signed Monday at 12:01PM.
It was a very entertaining game to watch and how could you not be happy at the outcome. However it's only one game and this was not the same Buffalo team that knocked us out last year. But it is a good start
Anybody notice Hilbert all alone in front of the Buffalo net with the puck in the third period?
He looked like a deer in headlights and completely flubbed it.
Sutton and MAB are not a good pairing. Sutton is too slow and MAB is unpredictable at best.
I agree that if Comrie continues to buzz like last night, that Snow should take a long hard look at throwing a ton of his unspent millions at him. I would hate to see him have a great year here and replace Jagr on that other team next year.
One really good sign I did notice, was the lack of "panic" in the third period. Last year, and in years before, you always felt like you were waiting for the other shoe to drop. I didn't get that feeling last night. To me, that was the highlight of the night....Bill
Also according to Logan, MAB will be benched once Berard is signed. I think it would be much more beneficial to the team if we scratched Hilbert and did a rotating of 4th line players for different situations. This would let us dress 7 D and still let us keep a top PP pairing of Berard and MAB
Another exciting game. Also, another sense of calm with 5 mins. left in the game. To me, this is huge.
To be fair to Hilbert, he did block two shots in the last few minutes.
Campoli is really playing with confidence. 2 goals already !!
Who was it, that I had a gentlemans bet with, about the D men scoring 40 goals this year?
At this pace they will hit 82...LOL LOL.
Another good win. Bring on the Caps.....Bill
Sim might be out for a while. Tambellini, the door is open...
Details to follow...
Snow needs to get Comrie's agent on the phone ASAP and work out a long-term deal.
whew- back in town after not seeing ANY of the games this weekend. Had to follow them on sportscenter- you know, the scrolling score bar on the bottom.
Anyway, looks like Bill might have to learn to be optimistic for once, huh! :) From what it sounds like, including the comments here (e.g. the non-panicing in the 3rd- Bill I agree that 'other shoe dropping' feeling was huge last season) are indicative of the new leadership. Yashin probably didn't say a word in the locker room inbetween 2nd & 3rd periods last year, while Blake threw a hissy fit because he didn't get the puck for the 30th time that period. You just know Guerin is in there motivating and inspiring the young guys, and then goes out and scores (assists) like a mad-man to back it up.
Good stuff!
Gotta get some work done before this 2:00 game...Lets go Islanders!
