Welcome Kyle & An Update on Ricky

Yesterday, the Islanders officially welcomed Kyle Okposo to the organization, signing him to a three year deal at 2.55 million, the rookie max. So far Okposo is living up to his billing performing nicely at the World Junior Championships with a goal and 2 assists so far in the tourney.

Another Isles prospect, Robin Figren is also putting his skills on display. Check out this clip of his goal from yesterdays game. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jFcTfDuaBxY

It looks as if Ricky will not miss any significant time, as MRI results were negative and he just has slight swelling of the knee. While we all can probably agree that Dubie is not as reliable as we would like our backup to be, I personally would not mind seeing either him or Joey Mac between the pipes tomorrow as well as on New Year's eve against the Canes to give Rick a week of rest before the schedule get real tough in January. Having Rick rest for a week to get back to 100% is much better then having him miss a few weeks or months to completely nail the coffin on any playoff chances this team has this year.

If DP plays tonight, it jut proves that the inmates are running the asylum.. Nolan needs to stand up here and let Ricky know who is in charge.

To rush him back after a knee injury for one or two games is insanity.

It's a long season and you would hope that the Isles brain trust would have learned their lesson after last years fiasco.....Bill

All,

I've been out of the country for the past week and a half and I won't be back for another week. So far the Isles are 3-1 so I won't rush back.

Bill, I agree about DP. There's no need to rush him back. Dubie was at his best last season when he was given the heads up that he was going to play for the rest of the season. By allowing Dubie to take the next few games, we might be able to squeeze some heroics out of him.

What's the deal with Okposo? Is he going to Bport when the tourny is over?

Who has been playing well? I saw Hunter's +/- now sits at -15. 6 goals on 108 shots is approaching Hilbert level.

If the Isles have a successful season, they can point back to tonight's game, as the game that molded them into a team.

Tonight's game was a total team effort from top to bottom. It was very encouraging to see team mates stick together and stand up for one another. For me, it was the best game of the year.

Dubie had an outstanding game and showed once again, that he is a capable backup. The entire team played well in front of him and he came up big time and time again.

For the first time this season, I felt that this group became a solid team and not just a bunch of individual players.

Justin, Hunter has played his best hockey over the last five games. His stats may not reflect what he brings to the game as far as sacrificing himself for the good of the team.

It was nice to see this team grow tonight and I can only hope that they can build on this far into the rest of the year.

Happy New Year everyone.....Bill

A very popular game in Sweden is innebandy, or floorball, in english. "Zorro" is the name of the trick Figren is doing in that video. In floorball this kind of technique is more common and it's also kind of amazing the things they can do with the ball. Check out this link if you're interested.

Anyone see how the Ovie contract talks are progressing? He wants to move to a bigger hockey market, where he could get endorsements & more money. The Isles can give him the money, and in NY, he'd get some good endorsements.

I'd love to see him in blue & orange...anyone can dream, right?
